Bolton was the first to agree with Aston Villa for a fee for 22-year-old defender Gary Cahill. However that move is reportedly on hold as both Birmingham City and Sunderland are said to have matched the offer.
The Blues are desperate for help on the back line with only two true center-backs available right now and Alex McLeish isn’t being shy about wanting the young Englishman – no matter what club he may play for.
Cahill has fallen down the pecking order and it is believed that Martin O’Neill is not interested in loaning him out again. So chances are that he’ll be bought by the end of the month. The question then is – by whom?
