Anytime a club is linked with a fierce rival’s player, I get just a little more excited for the transfer season. So when I read that Sunderland manager Roy Keane is interested in Newcastle United’s Damien Duff, I dove in head first.
The midfielder hasn’t exactly won over the fans at St. James Park during his injury-plagued time with the Magpies – and that could be enough for the player to be put on sale.
Plus, does Newcastle really want to play a high wage bill to a player that hasn’t proven his fitness?

This one might be more believable than you think. Roy Keane is looking for guys that he thinks can play for him – no matter where they are when he finds them. Newcastle is looking to cut excessive wages and that certainly defines Duff right now. It might just be a perfect match – even if it’s two hated rivals.
